Menus that make you hungry

A few weeks ago, Fat's restaurant wanted to re-do his menus for his Folsom and Roseville restaurants. When the prices changed, he would bring in the menu boards, and we would change them. He wished to no longer do that. So, he requested that we print the image below.

He was able to send us very high resolution photos and the items name. We printed what art he gave us and it came out so crisp and clean! It really looks nice and like the food is right there is front of you!

We mounted the print to a 25"x63"x1/2" thick piece of black PVC. we applied the tracks that were on his old boards, and he had brand new menus.

We can design menus or we can print anything you give us. If you send us art, we will let you know if it will be high enough resolution to look nice.

Vehicle Lettering for All Sizes

A common question that we get here is "what is a standard size for vehicle lettering?". There isn't really a standard size for vehicles. There is a lot that can be done. You can cover you vehicle (like a billboard) or you can put the basic information. Where you are putting the information and what you want to put on it all depends on the size. Here is an example of what we can do for you:

If you take a step back, you can see that this is a horse trailer. This lettering works perfect for this space. If this customer wanted, we could have completely covered the trailer.

Score Board Sponsor Signage

A little while back, Signs On Time had made some sponsor signs for the local high school. There were sponsors that needed to be added to their score board.

These signs are 2'x3' signs. Don't they look so small (but, they fit perfectly with the rest of the board). It always depends on where you place your signage as to how big (or small) it may look. It also depends on the surroundings. It there are multiple small(er) things around your big(ger) signage, it will look bigger. Perspective is everything.

Ready to Slide into Home!

McBean Park in Lincoln asked us to make some 3 dimensional letters for them. They wanted something easy to read, nice looking and inexpensive. It looks so small from a distance and they look metal.

But, when you look up close, they are actually 18" tall plastic letters. You can't really tell that they're plastic, until you're right ton top of them.

Take another look. Looks like metal letters to me.

Halloween Time!

Last month, we made a sign for a new halloween store in town. This is made out of orange coroplast with black text and spider. The entire sign is over 16 feet tall and 38 feet wide. Here's a picture trying to give you a good prospective (compared to the small door off to the right).

Signs On Time has made many 3-dimensional lettering projects. What material does the below photo look like it's made out of?

It looks like gold metal lettering. That would not be correct. It is actually gold plastic letters. This customer did have the gold metal letters, but they kept on getting stolen. They wanted the same look, but a less expensive price. This met all their requirements.

Window Lettering

Here is some window lettering that we made and installed for a local jeweler. Of course, the customer wanted to keep a part of the window open to show off the jewelery and we designed this to accommodate.

The background is burgundy with gold lettering. This window gets direct sun and (during summer months) heat for over half the day and the vinyl material that we used will hold up in these conditions. This came out really good and the customer was extremely happy to see it complete when he came back from vacation.

MDO Signage

Here is a sign that we made for one of our customers. This sign is made of 1/2" thick MDO that is 50"x48".

The sign is attached to 2 wooden posts outside the office so their customers can see the entrance easily.

Menu Board Signage

Signs On Time makes menu boards. I'm not sure if everyone knows that. Here is a sample of something we've made in the past for Sun City Lincoln Hills, in their cafe. The board is 4'x8' made out of di-bond (heavy duty) material. The menu items and prices are changeable. This menu board is very nice looking and very user friendly. Directories & Monuments

Recently, Signs On Time made some 3 dimensional directory signs for a near by office building. These signs turned out great! The directory strips (shown below) are 1/4" thick black PVC with a brushed gold laminate. The size is 2 3/4" x 15". The lettering is made from a matte black vinyl. They are very easy to read and look very classy. The strips are attached the frame with velcro, so they can be removed when tenants move in and out. This makes the change very simple. At the same building, we also made their monument signage. This has the same brushed gold laminate, so it will match in the interior signage. It is made from a different material (the backing). This is made from 6 3/8" x 66" black 1/8" thick acrylic. This particular signage didn't need to be as 3 dimensional as the interior signage. This, too, has matte black lettering on top of the brushed gold laminate.

Lincoln Airport Signage

Signs On Time often makes signage for the Lincoln Airport. They often get aluminum signage to advertise for the people in the airport. The signs below are 12"x58" .080 aluminum that can have as many colors as needed. These signs are very sturdy and last for many years.

The below signage is a swing set a-frame. The sign itself is 3' tall x 2' wide. When wind comes up, the sign flows with the wind and doesn't become an issue (unless there are high winds, in that case, we would recommend bringing the sign in).

The a-frame signs can be single or double sided with as many colors, graphics or text as you would like. A-frames are great for advertising you store, or even a sale. Restroom ADA Signs

Signs On Time makes many different types of ADA signage. We make anything from exit, exit route, handicapped accessible signs to custom made ADA signage and so much more.

Last week, we made some custom restroom ADA signs for a local contracting company. They needed something special that met the requirements of their customer. They requested a stainless steel surface with black pictograms.

Since stainless steel is so expensive, I recommended a brushed aluminum surface with the black pictograms. They were so happy with the final product and for the fact that they saved money not purchasing the stainless steel, but getting the same look.

Materials & Uses

Signs On Time makes all sorts of signs. From job site signage to yard signs. From exterior building signage to name badges. You need it, we can make it. We will always give you recommendations to what we may think would be best for your use.

If your business orders a banner and is in a high wind area, we would recommend wind holes. Now, these aren't actually holes in the banner, more like slits to allow the wind to pass through without damaging the banner.

If there might by a lot of pressure on the corners for a long period of time, we may recommend having the corners reinforced.

If a pole is needed to help support the banner, we would be using pole pockets (we don't supply the poles).

We make signs out of many different types of materials. If you are uncertain of what to use, we can recommend something the would suit your signage needs best.

One of the uncommon materials is acrylic. Acrylic is one of the durable materials, which is a thin plastic material.

Dibond is another sturdy material. It is a 1/8" thick rigid composite board consisting of a hard plastic core laminated with aluminum on both sides.

This is styrene (with an easel back). If you don't need the easel back, you don't have to have it. This is a flexible indoor plastic. The easel back is made out of cardboard.

This is rhino board. It is a tough, rigid, yet light weight board that stands up to weather.

Interior Directional & Room Signage

We make all kinds of different types of signage. Did you know that we can make interior directional and room signage? Well, we do!

The photo below is something that we made for Sierra College. They needed some double sided room signage and this is what we cam up with. The green and tan are to match their room colors. It really goes well with everything.

Here are some interior directional signs. Each one of these signs are 12"x48". They are made out of a light weight 1/2" thick sign foam, so they are easily installed and very light weight. Once again, the colors matches their room colors.

They are also double sided. This gives you a better perspective of how they look down the hallway. You really can't miss these signs!

Energy Absorption

A couple weeks ago, we completed a 3-dimensional sign order for Energy Absorption. When the weather cleared, we were able to install in for them.

The logo portion is made from routed sign foam and then painted to match the customers logo colors.

The text portion is 1/2" thick plain (unpainted) black PVC.

Parking Lot Signage

We get a lot of requests for ADA signage. One request that we had this morning was for this parking lot sign. These signs have recently been changed. They use to be 24"x18" with a reflective blue background and white letters.

Now, these signs are 24"x24" reflective white background with black text. They have always been engineer grade aluminum. They come with pre-drilled holes on the top and bottom. Just let us know "where the vehicles can be reclaimed" and the phone number. We'll add that on at no extra charge.

We also carry most (if not all) the other parking lot signage. We try to keep a full stock on the ISA symbol, Van Assessable signage, Minimum Fine $250, ISA with Parking Only, Reserved Parking, and the No Parking Any Time signs. Donohoe and Company 3-Dimensional Lettering

This week, we installed some 3 dimensional lettering in an office building. This was for Donohoe & Company. The installation went smoothly.

The logo and lettering are 1/2" thick PVC. The letters are plain black PVC while the logo is a spacial paint match color (that matches their logo colors). The lighting looks great with the letters.

From the far side, you can really see the dimension.

Fire Extinguisher Signs

Signs On Time produces a lot of ADA signage for local construction companies. One request that we have had is to make a custom fire extinguisher sign to mount on a wall.

This sign shown above is 1/8" thick x 6" tall x 6.25" (total) wide Plexiglas. The bend is at 2.75". This is a pretty standard graphic that we use and we can produce these to be any color.

Cokeva 3 dimensional lettering

Over the last few weeks, we have been working with Coveka (formally Comtek). Because they have changed their name, they needed new signage for their lobby and outside of their building.

These letters are in their lobby. They are 11" tall, 3/4" thick black PVC with a clear acrylic that we back painted to match the company's logo.

Here's an up close shot. They look so nice. These are the colors of their logo and we were able to match them. If you give us a PMS colors, we can match them.

We also did their exterior 3 dimensional lettering. These are 24" tall formed plastic letters. These are also color matched. These letters are guaranteed for workmanship.

When we were working with these letters, they were huge. Now, they look smaller compared to the entire building. The customer is so happy with all the 3 dimensional lettering that they purchased!

Brass Plaques

Here is one of our samples that we have in the store. It is a brass plaque. They are very heavy duty. The border and text is brass and the background is a textured black.

The overall sign is 4"x10" , it is 1/2" thick with 1/4" tall text. It weights about 5 pounds.

Light Boxes are as Easy as 1,2,3

The best and easiest way to have customer notice your business (especially at night) is to have an illuminated light box (or non-illuminated) sign. Having a sign like this will bring attention to your business when people are driving by. If your business is open at night as well, you may want something that can light up and grab attention easily.

You can supply the artwork, or we can assist that that department, as well. We want to make this as easy as possible for you. When it comes to the design, less is more. People will be driving by (usually at a fast pace) and will have time to read only the business name. Eye catching colors are also a prefect option. Red is the #1 color for this.

Here is a illuminated light box sign that we made for Nor Cal Auto Body. They supplied the artwork and we printed it for them. It was very easy for them to have this made. This particular sign is 3'x8'. I love the colors and they really do pop when you drive by.

Office Directories

When I walk into an office, I like being able to read the directory easily and be able to clearly see where I need to go. Here is a directory that we made for Sierra College.

With this directory, we can match your colors and have anything printed on the sliders. The best thing about this is that the directional part is interchangeable. Just give us a call when you need something changed and we can come out there and change it.

The frame, itself is brushed silver with the changeable sliders. On this directory, the sliders are each 2"x8". They come in many different sizes and colors. The sliders are very easy to change, if you would prefer, you can change them. We will explain everything to you. We want to make everything as easy as we possibly can for you.

PCCA Meeting & ADA Signage

This morning, Kay and I went to a PCCA meeting. This meeting helps us understand how to properly look through specs and plans to bid our construction customers. We learned a lot and we look forward to giving a lot of quotes!

Yesterday, I just finished an ADA order that we produced for Reeve-Knight Construction. They ordered a lot of ADA signage. These signs are 3"x12" blue with white text. They have braille under neath the text.

These signs are some restroom ADA signs. They are 12"x8" blue with white text and braille. These differ from standard ADA restroom signs by their size. The standard size is 9"x6".

Short Quantity Runs of Decals and Labels

Today I'm going to talk about decals and labels. These can be used in a lot different ways so I'm not going to talk about how or where to use them. I'm going to talk about cost and availability.

In the recent past, when you ordered decals or labels, the set up cost was fairly expensive so in order to make it cost effective, you usually had to order minimums of 500 or 1,000 at a time. Even ordering in those quantities, it could be fairly expensive unless you ordered quite a bit more, like 5,000 or so. The more you ordered, the cheaper per thousand it got. And on top of it all, you were probably charged a little extra for each additional color and any bleeds in the print.

That has changed. Some of the larger wholesale houses still operate that way because their equipment is such that they still have large set up costs. But with new technology in digital, full color printing, and contour cutting, small runs of decals have become available and very affordable.

At Signs On Time, we produce large quantity runs of decals down to very small runs that are very affordable, in house. We do full color, even contour cut decals at no extra charge. So in the past, maybe you didn't have a need for 1,000 decals contour cut around your logo, but with small runs now so affordable and so quickly available, who knows, maybe you could find a need for 20 or so.

Banner Stands for Trade Shows or Lobby Point of Purchace Advertising

Banner stands are not just for trade show advertising. Besides being conveniently small when rolled up in their case and being light weight and easy to transport, banner stands also make ideal advertising platforms for your lobby, or even point of purchase displays.

They don't take up much space because they're mostly vertical. They accept full color graphics. And because they are eye level, they can pack a big advertising punch. For instance, in many bank lobbies these days, you'll see them prominently displaying the bank logo and a message. They can work in many retail settings as well. Think of them as branding your lobby.

3-dimensional lobby lettering

3-dimensional lettering in your lobby can make a very professional first impression. Using light weight materials that have the look of being very substantial can be surprisingly inexpensive. One of the more popular type of materials like this is a 1/2" thick rigid pvc black foam board laminated with a brushed gold or silver aluminum.

The 1/2" thick black edge gives the letters depth and the brushed gold or silver finish aluminum gives it a classy look.

If you have a logo to display in your lobby, all the better, but even if you don't have one, your name alone in 3-dimensional lettering still makes a statement. Think of it as branding your lobby.

Last Monday, the 22nd of March, Signs On Time participated in a fund raising golf tournament and silent auction benefiting a non-profit organization called Pencils for Kids, Inc.

Imagine desperately wanting to go to school and not being able to because your family can't afford to buy you even a pencil. Pencils for Kids, Inc. believes that every child deserves an education. They are dedicated to helping children in developing countries around the world to attend school and, in doing so, build the foundation for a better future.

Eat the Chocolate Slow

March 26, 2010
While checking out at a local supermarket this week, the cashier looked at me with a raised eyebrow as she scanned a large chocholate bar. I of course, fained no knowledge of how it got into my basket. Then she gave me a knowing wink and said “Eat the chocolate slow.”
I bring this up because those words remind me to savor the moments of life. This has been a very busy week for us and I’m grateful for it, but with all the deadlines and rushing around, it’s easy to forget to have fun and appreciate all of my blessings. I’m thankful for being able to do something that I love and to share that with my wife. I’m also thankful for our great employees that are like family to us, and customers and vendors that have become friends. My experience has been that the more I can live in the present, the more I find the things that are really important. The things that last.
So I’m going to try to eat my chocolate a little slower this week, and enjoy the ride.

Golf Sponsor Signs for Childhood Cancer Research

Last fall, Signs On Time made golf tournament sponsor signs for a non-profit organization that donates money for childhood cancer research. The Keaton Raphael Memorial was founded in 1998 and is dedicated to helping families in Northern California whose children have been diagnosed with all types of cancer through; financial, emotional and educational support and resources. Their scope is actually even larger than that. See their web site at ChildCancer.org for complete information. A very worthy cause. We’ve been making their golf sponsor signs every year since their inception. Last year at the golf tournament fundraising dinner, they presented a check worth $100,000 to UC Regents for childhood cancer research. This worthy grass-roots organization is always looking for dedicated volunteers. I know we’re glad to be a part of it.

Sponsor Signs for Charity Golf Tournament

The annual Bill Santucci Memorial Golf Tournament is a good example of the eye catching signs that Signs On Time does on a regualar basis for golf tournament clients. This photo was taken Sept 18, 2009 at Sierra View golf course. This charitable golf tournament is another terrific example of grass roots fund raising in our community. All proceeds raised are used for scholarships to benefit Roseville High School District graduating seniors and students at Sierra college. Last year’s event raised over $20,000 and provided 20 scholarships to South Placer students.

This year's tournament is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 17, 2010

Wind is your banner's worst enemy

Has your banner ever looked like this? Banners are not made to withstand harsh weather or heavy wind. But there are some things you can do or have your sign company do that can help make your banner stronger, but remember, wind is your banner's worst enemy.

You can reinforce the corners of the banner by having the material at the corners doubled up. You can also reinforce the hem by having nylon webbing sewn into it. You can reduce the stress of the wind by cutting curved half circle slits, like smiles, in the fabric. Too many cut smiles though, may weaken the banner material, so only a few cuts would be best.

One other tip regarding storage of your banner for the times when your banner is displayed intermittently. Always roll the banner, never fold it. Folding causes creases in the fabric that can make it unsightly.

We at Signs On Time do not charge for cutting wind smiles and reinforcing the hems and corners are just a nominal cost compared to the cost of the entire banner.

Signs and Banners in Roseville - Store Front Window Decal Installation - Signs On Time blog

Signs On Time just recently installed decals, or other wise known as window lettering, on the front door of The Studio Theatre in Sacramento. Two good friends of mine, Bob and Rosemarie Gerould, who were instrumental in establishing The Magic Circle Theater in Roseville, http://www.mcircle.org/, have moved on to a more intimate setting and recently opened a new theater group at The Studio Theatre in Sacramento.

The Studio Theatre in Sacramento is having a Fund Raiser this Saturday, March 6. Doors open at 7:30 with a silent aution followed by a performance of Old Time Radio Theater and music by Mike Branson. The Studio Theatre is located at 1028 R Street.

Lobby Lettering for Dramatic Effect

Three-dimensional lettering for your lobby can make a dramatic first impression about your company. This is especially true if your logo is included. If you don’t have a logo but you use a particular font style that is associated with your company, using that letter style makes a professional statement on it’s own.

Today, Signs On Time installed some 3-D letters on a lobby wall in an attorney’s office that made just such a professional statement. The company, Law Office of Lorraine Gingery located at The Fountains shopping center, just relocated to this new location and the lettering that we installed for her makes a very positive impact when you walk into the office.

The following post is one that I made last fall on our old blogging system. I thought it was cute, and it is a true story, so I thought it was worthy to re-post to our new blog.

Today we got to be the hero in one local high school cheerleader’s heart (and perhaps her parent’s hearts too). It seems that in all the anticipation of the football team’s opening game tonight, our young lady had forgotten that it was her responsibility to get her cheerleader’s megaphone lettered with her name and the school mascot’s name on it. When she and her parents came into the store late this afternoon with the unlettered megaphone and told us what they needed to put on it, they asked with a slightly noticable sense of anguish in their voice, “How soon can you do it?” It turns out that they needed it in an hour. Well, we did the work and an hour later a relieved parent came to pick it up. I think there might be a very grateful cheerleader some where out there tonight. It’s one of the neat things I like about this job. Happy to do it. Glad to be of service.

When people want Signs On Time to reproduce their logo or some other digital image for their signs, posters, and banners, most people have a hard time understanding why an image or art work needs to be in a vector format rather than a raster type of format, say, a jpg, or a tif formated art file.

As you can see from the illustration, with a vector format, the art file can be enlarged to any size, without losing any resolution, where as with other files, resolution is lost when enlarged.
